I had some trouble when setting up a 14:9 monitor as most of the resolutions available were for 4:3 or 16:9 ones meaning the display was distorted. The only 14:9 one one was very high which meant that things were too small to comfortably see.
I wanted to add a resolution of 1224 x 768, which is what this guide uses as an example. You can change those numbers to what suits you but both should be divisible by eight. Obviously your system won't be identical to mine so things like the monitor vendor and model names will be different.
After following the instructions, reboot and you should then find your new resolution is available.
