Wood Turning.
I don't have a wood-turning lathe but do have a 1930s Pool's Special Long-Bed engineering lathe.
When I first started turning wood on this a couple of people, one of whom is the Secretary of the East Yorkshire Wood-Turners' Club, said I wouldn't get far as it is fundamentally unsuitable; the maximum speed is too low and the bits which are essential for metal-turning get in the way of wood-turning tools.
The speed has never been a great problem — it must be one up on a pole lathe — and just match my speed to the machine's, and am not too proud to do a lot of sanding.
Neither was I aware of the cross-slide and the like getting in the way. I then realised that this was because a lot of the time I was working left-handed!
